Entropion, or the inward turning of the eyelid, is a condition that can occur congenitally or acquiredly, causing eyelashes to irritate the eye and therefore requiring prompt treatment. While it most commonly affects the lower eyelid, entropion can also occur in the upper eyelid. It can cause watery eyes, redness, eye infections, discharge, and damage to the cornea, the transparent outer layer of the eye.
Treatment is surgical, performed using an appropriate method depending on the patient’s age and the cause . The deformity can be corrected by repairing the loosened tissues, repositioning the eyelid muscles, using reversing sutures to prevent inward turning, or using a graft (patch). These methods can be combined depending on the patient’s condition. Our modified technique, which we have also contributed to the literature, has a high success rate.
